Empowering Women on International Women’s Day: PDCI’s Champions of Change

Celebrating International Women’s Day, we honor exceptional women leaders from our global network, Partner for Democratic Change International (PDCI). For nearly 25 years, these women have championed democracy and peace globally. Individually, they have empowered others to make a difference in their communities, and countries.

Their journey showcases perseverance and dedication. Furthermore, it highlights that democracy goes beyond elections, embracing social inclusion, empowerment, and a culture of participation. PDCI affiliates work tirelessly to break barriers for women in public spaces, fostering women’s leadership. Consequently, their outstanding leadership has made a global impact. From Mexico to Yemen, they’ve inspired thousands to actively engage in their communities.

Let’s introduce you to three remarkable women from PDCI:

Éva Deák’s, an Inspirational Journey of Empowerment for Women

Since joining Partners Hungary Foundation in 2006 and becoming its Executive Director in 2008, Éva Deák has dedicated her career to empowering others. Initially, she began in the business sector focusing within adult education and later began supporting the work of social inclusion for the Roma minority in Hungary. Holding degrees in mediation and Hungarian language and literature, Éva’s motivation stems from a deep-seated drive to contribute to the public good and empower individuals to articulate their needs.

Question: What inspires you to advocate for social change?
Answer: “The internal drive to act for the public good and empower others to voice their needs. Believing in the responsibility that comes with intellectual ability, I am committed to positively impacting both my immediate and broader surroundings.”

Sofiko Shubladze, A Beacon of Hope for Women’s Leadership

Sofiko Shubladze is the Director of Partners Georgia. She brings over 15 years of experience in training and consulting with leaders from civil society, youth, women, the private sector, and government officials across the South Caucasus and Europe. Sofiko, has a background in Social Psychology and an MBA in Human Resources Management. But she was inspired by her early experiences in the Soviet Union and the subsequent challenges in Georgia. Consequently, this inspiration drove her commitment to contribute to her country’s journey towards democracy and peace.

Question: What has inspired your work in social change and democracy?
Answer: “Experiencing my country’s history of struggle and transformation inspired me to join forces with those dedicated to social change and democratic development. It’s a source of great happiness. And an ongoing inspiration to contribute to the fascinating processes shaping Georgia today.”

Dina Dukqhan, Pioneering Women’s Empowerment in the Middle East

Dina Dukqhan is the founding director of Partners Jordan. She emerged as a key figure in PDCI’s response to the Arab Spring, as a pivotal change agent in the Arab world. Because of her efforts coalitions were formed to bolster support for activists and NGOs. Additionally, she has provided youth with alternatives to violence. After nine impactful years with PDCI, Dina will continue her mission to empower women in Minnesota. As the Executive Director of Honoring Women Worldwide, PDCI is excited to see the continued impact of our esteemed colleagues in their new chapters.

PDCI takes pride in the many women who have led within our network, fostering lasting connections among professionals united in their vision for a peaceful, democratic world.
